are high point fire arms trash or a viable option?

This is an argument that is debated hotly in fire arm and survival circles.  well here is my hot take on the issue.  NO they are not as awful as the population makes them out to be.  I have a few of them I picked up over the years now I only paid for one of them and the rest were gifted to me.  now with that said lets get into the matter.

When I first become aware of this brand they were know as haskel.  My friend Chris bought it in a whim used.  It was a .45 acp single stack felt like a brick in the hand rattled trigger was horrid semi accurate and just about impossible to carry hidden.   it stuck out like a sour thumb it printed no matter how you tried to hide it.  it was a little larger than full size.  we shot the hell out of it,  it well worked  ... it shot what ever we feed it.  I was shocked to say the least.  but after a while it started to jam, mis fire exc.   and yep finally it passed on and was no longer a gun but now a paper weight.  now it took a few months i say a full summer of us just beating the crap out of this thing just about 3 days a week and shoot thousands of rounds threw it. ( yes this was YEARS back when ammo was still affordable and on shelves) now fast forward about another 8 years. and I get a HI POINT .380 why well I'm not sure exactly why I did but it was at a pawn shop and like 30 bucks lol.  My father and I were in there buying a few other rifles for the vintage military collection we have.  And my dad said screw it toss in that .380 as well.  I just looked ar him and he shrugged his shoulders and said its 30 bucks who cares.  well it sat in a lock box for some time un till I decided to check it out.

I took it to our range on the property and low and behold I shot it.  she ran well and was a little odd with some ammo.  it hated white box but ate just about every thing else I feed it.  i was semi impressed with it.  more accurate and a little more comfortable than the original haskel.  would I carry it as a every day carry gun?  No I don't think I would.  but its a bag gun or "truck" gun.  moving on I ended up with not one but two hi point 9mm carmines again single stack generation one for both one was a gift from Chris and the other I bought from a friend who was moving over seas.  NOW I love these they are fun accurate look like a star wars storm trooper blaster.  they do not like any self defense rounds lol but any thing else is good.  I painted one camo just to see how I do with the rattle can and I think it come out alright.  last but not least I ended up getting gifted a .45 pistol about 3 years ago  and I've shot this several times.  all in all the experience with it as well basic.  She shoots, not to badly accurate eats all the ammo given to her.  so for the price points that the hi point sit at they are a good buy they do exactly what a gun is supposed to do GO BANG.  they are no frills not Gucci, but it works.  and in the grand scale of things that is all that matters right?  the msrp on a new on is sub 250 you can get a case of these for the price of a HK lol I hate when people talk crap on them.  because they do work.  they are very cheep basic guns.  no they are not good looking no they are not small, no they are not light weight.  I would not recommend one as a EDC weapon but yeah as a farm gun, truck gun, you bet I would.  and if you don't have a lot of money and need a side arm this is a choice.  you can get them sup 100 at used /pawn shops. so in summation is a hi point fire arm good?  its not the best but it will work its a weapon that can save you in a pinch.  and worth having one in the tool box for that SHTF situation.  if you can get your hands on one under msrp do it.
