LIVING HISTORY
I took a quick trip the other day to Gettysburg PA, it's an easy drive for me about three and a half hours away from where I live. I can do that standing on my head. I took my father-in-law out to visit his brother and my nephew who is 14 years old. So, you know he was less than thrilled to be stuck in a car for 3.5 hours with us. But he actually did have a good time. I dropped off the father-in-law to his brothers did a quick hi how is everyone and then Little Bob and I hit the road again. We looked for local comic shops and record stores in the area and over the next two days we hit four comic shops and one record store. But the gem of the trip was he and I going to the historic battlefield and going over all the monuments and taking in all the rich history in and around the area.
Bob was actually having a great time asking questions on the history and the civil war. we checked out the local museums and historical hot spots. It was great seeing him tale an active interest in the history we were immersed in. I think he liked how we broke up the "history lesson" with the shops we were hitting as well. It was like learning an important history lesson and peppering in pop culture. it keeps his attention, and he enjoyed it was not like being rapped over the head with history, names, dates and facts and on the drive home he was still talking about what we went over. I think he unlocked a new passion in history. and that's a great thing.
